Resolution providing for the designation of certain areas of public property within Schenley Park under City ownership to be formalized as a City park.

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has long-established the importance of public parks for the people;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes that public parks promote the health of our communities;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes that public parks are a critical tool for increasing our resiliency against climate change;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has the right under the Pennsylvania Dedicated and Donated Property Act to recognize and protect parks for public enjoyment;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh acquired twenty-eight acres in Junction Hollow and merged them with Schenley Park without public recognition of their public benefit;

 

WHEREAS, Junction Hollow provides recreational space for our communities;

 

WHEREAS, Junction Hollow is vital source of green storm water management;

 

WHEREAS, the conservation of Junction Hollow is vital to not only our communities, but to ensure we have greenspaces to mitigate the effects of climate change;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh affirms our recognition that Junction Hollow is a City park with invaluable public benefits.

 

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.                     That the City Council dedicates the Subject Property within Schenley Park, that is commonly referred to as Junction Hollow, as a City Park:
