Title
Resolution adopting the Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan, which identifies targets and strategies for greenhouse gas emissions for the City of Pittsburgh. The purpose of the plan is to serve as an advisory plan for future land use, transportation and development planning.

Body
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

Section 1. The Mayor and the Director of City Planning, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh are hereby authorized to approve the 2017 Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan for the City, attached as Exhibit A and as adopted by the Planning Commission on October 10th, 2017

Section 2. The 2017 Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan is an initiative of the Department of City Planning (DCP) and the Mayor's Office, in collaboration with numerous city departments, authorities, universities, non-governmental organizations, utilities and civic organizations, to develop a greenhouse gas emissions mitigation strategy. The 2017 Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan will help support decision making and provide guidance for future planning, land use, transportation and development activities

Section 3. The 2017 Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan follows up on the Mayor's Executive Order from June 2017 (Number: 2017-08) calling for the creation of said plan and builds upon prior climate action plans in 2008 and 2012 and three years of outreach and development with community leaders. The goals of the plan were crafted in accordance to the Mayor's participation in the 2015 Paris Climate Summit and follow the City's commitment to the Mayor's National Climate Action Agenda (MNCAA) and the Global Compact of Mayor's Climate Agreement.

Section 4. The 2013 GHG Emissions inventory collected information from the City of Pittsburgh's geographic boundary. The city and its environs contribute over 4.5 million metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere. 82 Percent of these emissions are attributed to the buildings sector, 17 Percent fr...
