WHEREAS, Father Joseph E. Swierczynski, a native of Pittsburgh, born in March of 1938, celebrates 50 years in the priesthood; and finds the greatest joy in celebrating Mass, administering the sacraments and being a support and help to his flock.
WHEREAS, Fr. Swierczynski was assigned the pastorate at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Polish Hill in 1995 and marks 19 years there this July.
WHEREAS, a 2:00pm Mass on Sunday, May 18th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church was held in recognition of his jubilee and a banquet at St. Nicholas Orthodox Hall in Oakland followed in celebration of Fr. Swierczynski life and service.
WHEREAS, Fr. Swierczynski passion is to lead the flock to a greater love for God and His Mother, especially through liturgical customs and ethnic traditions and going "all out" during great feasts, Father's actions speak loudly about the beauty of Polish heritage and the great love of God.
AND WHEREAS, Fr. Swierczynski's dreams and ambitions of being pastor of a church named for Mary and a church with Polish heritage have become a reality at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Polish Hill.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and thank Fr. Joseph E. Swierczynski Day for his tireless dedication the people of Pittsburgh, which he actively lives out through his varied efforts as a Polish Hill resident and faithful shepherd to the people of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 20th 2014 "Fr. Joseph E. Swierczynski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
