Resolution authorizing the City of Pittsburgh to enter into a Preservation Agreement with the CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH.

WHEREAS, effective January 1, 2018, the City signed a lease agreement (“Lease”) with the CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH for the property at 6 Allegheny Square East, Allegheny Square, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, the building formerly known as the Carnegie Free Library of Pittsburgh of Allegheny, for a period of twenty-nine years; and
WHEREAS, CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH subsequently applied for and was awarded funds in the amount of a Twenty-Four Thousand Dollar ($24,000) grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to support repointing of the granite façade of the Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny building; and
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission requires an agreement to demonstrate to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that its property will be preserved and protected before dispersing funds to the CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH; and
WHEREAS, the CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH requested that the City agree to the Preservation Agreement; and
WHEREAS, the City is willing to agree to the Preservation Agreement.
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. Authorizes the City of Pittsburgh to enter into a Preservation Agreement with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (now leasing a City-owned building) for the purpose of demonstrating to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which has offered the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh a Twenty-Four Thousand Dollar ($24,000) grant, that the property will be preserved and maintained for fifteen years.
