2007-1815 1 ProclamationWHEREAS, the Nation's Voice on Mental Illness (NAMI) was founded in 1979 as a mental health organization committed to helping persons suffering from serious mental illness and their families; and WHEREAS, NAMI is dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by these diseases; and WHEREAS, NAMI promotes a mission of support, education, advocacy and research for people living with serious mental illnesses; and WHEREAS, one in seventeen Americans suffer from a serious mental illness, and one in five American families are directly affected by serious mental illness; and WHEREAS, the goals for the NAMIWalks program are to fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness, to raise awareness of the need for improvement in the national mental health system and to raise funds for NAMI so that they can continue their mission. On Saturday, September 29, 2007 the Afro American Music Institute celebrates its 25th Anniversary. This day preserve the cultural tradition and quality of a music that is widely recognized as an original American art form; and WHERAS, in a classroom at the University of Pittsburgh, the foundation for a comprehensive curriculum that would fall under the umbrella of an inner-city program called The Afro American Music Institute began in 1982 as a proprietary venture of founders Dr. James Johnson and his wife, Pamela.
