WHEREAS, Ms. Torre first gained notoriety in 1959 for being the first journalist in the United States to go to jail for refusing to reveal the name of the source for her New York Herald-Tribune story about actress Judy Garland; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Torre moved to Pittsburgh in 1962 to work for KDKA-TV, where she was the first female news anchor; and
WHEREAS, the Marie Torre Memorial Lecture Series endeavors to honor her memory by seeking out speakers who have demonstrated the highest standards of professional and personal integrity, and who are role models for Carlow students and other young people; and
