WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation - an organization of journalists, communications specialists and students - supports Black journalists and the Black community, hosts programs that recognize excellent media coverage of minority communities and trains young people to enter the media industry; and
WHEREAS, Ervin Dyer is president of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation. He has been involved with the organization for more than 15 years and has served as vice president and treasurer. Mr. Dyer is a reporter at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette where he covers spirituality and health care in the black community. He works on the Robert L. Vann Media Awards committee and is hopelessly devoted to tennis; and

Whereas, Bennett Place has been providing affordable housing for Pittsburgh's Low income seniors due to the efforts of the 45th Anniversary of Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF); and
Whereas the RHF was started by two clergymen from the United Church of Christ and a layperson who, with $7,000, started with a dream that has grown to include Bennett Place Apartments and 156 other communities throughout the United States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Serving more than 16,000 older adults, persons with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged families; and
Whereas, Bennett Place is an affordable community of 51 units for low-income adults over the age of 65 and is a collaborative effort by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Retirement Housing Foundation.
