2007-2015 1 ProclamationWHEREAS, initially known as the South Pittsburgh Housing Task Force when it was formed in 1993, the South Pittsburgh Development Corporation (SPDC) became a nonprofit corporation in 1996; and WHEREAS, the SPDC petitioned to have a 1.3 acre parcel at Jacob and Whited Streets in Brookline turned into green space after uncovering the pitfalls of developing on that property, which was deemed un-developable; and WHEREAS, with the assistance of local officials, the determined members of the SPDC pressured the Pittsburgh Housing Authority to agree to sell the parcel to the City of Pittsburgh; and WHEREAS, on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 the SPDC will enter into a lease agreement with the City of Pittsburgh to acquire the rights to that parcel; and WHEREAS, with their dedicated members, the SPDC will beautify that area for the benefit of the neighborhood of Brookline for generations to come placing a welcome sign and walking paths on that parcel; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the hAdoptedPass Action details
2007-2016 1 ProclamationWHEREAS, there are 47 million people in our nation without health insurance coverage and over 50 million with inadequate healthcare coverage; and, WHEREAS, the number of employers who can provide healthcare insurance to their employees continues to decline each year as premiums continue to escalate beyond the rate of inflation ; and, WHEREAS, typical labor contract negotiations now center on concessionary demands from employers requiring growing numbers of employees to lose benefits or contribute an ever greater share of these costs, thereby reducing their real take home wages ; and, WHEREAS, healthcare costs for active and retired public employees are placing a tremendous strain on the operating budgets of local, county and state governments; and, WHEREAS, our current for-profit insurance run system of health care is driving up the cost of healthcare unnecessarily due to high administrative overhead and wasteful marketing expenditures resulting in huge profits and "excessive revenues"; and, WHEREAS, various legislative proposals have now emerged atAdoptedPass Action details
2007-2017 1 ProclamationWHEREAS, Leo R. Campbell and Della Ladley were united in holy matrimony in 1924; and, from this union produced Mildred Alice, Richard, Robert and Leo; and, WHEREAS, Leo and Della, known to their family and friends as "Paps" and "Mame" where blessed with eleven grandchildren: Bobby, Connie Lee, Rickey, Susan, Gary, Billy, Leslie, Bruce, Diane, Timmy and Lynn; and, WHEREAS, Paps especially loved the Christmas season, decorating the house from top to bottom, inside and out. Santa, his sleigh and reindeer were secured on the roof top; and, a full-size Nativity with wise men, camels and a choir of angels adorned the front yard. Lights were strung from the tip of the chimneys and all around the windows and door. There was a specific order of the light bulbs of red, blue, yellow, green, and white. Anything and everything was decorated. Mame even decorated the lamp shades with pieces of plastic tablecloths of holiday scenes in her living and dining rooms.
