| 1 | | Proclamation | WHEREAS, On Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th, 2007, eight year old Marissa Nicholas organized a cleanup with friends, family, and fellow CCD students from Brookline to beautify the area in front of Our Lady of Loretta Church on Pioneer Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Marissa sought out residents to either donate their time or money to aid in the cleanup effort. She collected over $500 in monetary donations and, once word got out of her project, received flower donations from Daniel's Landscaping, as well as countless hours of volunteering from residents; and
WHEREAS, Marissa's goal in beautifying the area in front of the church is to encourage more residents to attend church service; and
WHEREAS, Marissa is a third grader at West Liberty Elementary, on Dunster Street in Brookline and has maintained a 4.0 GPA since she started school and is consistently on the honor roll. Her hobbies include dance and softball, where she excels in both. She is the daughter of Brian and Kimberly Nicholas of Brookline; and

WHEREAS all contestants were required to enter their own renditions of a previously publicized Libby's jingle, while also including a second verse of their own; and
WHEREAS Cortney Pasko, music teacher of Dible Elementary School in Penn Hills, challenged her students to participate in the contest, assisting five of her students in recording their own variations on a Libby's jingle; and
WHEREAS on November 22, 2006, fourth grader, Bria Williams, daughter to Okeyta and Quinn Williams, was announced as the Grand Prize Winner of the Pittsburgh market's contest, thereby receiving a five thousand dollar U.S. savings bond, in addition to a five thousand dollar award for the benefit of Dible Elementary School; and
WHEREAS Bria recorded her jingle for a Libby's commercial at radio station

WHEREAS, the event is also honoring Paul Wahrhaftig, who is considered by many to be the father of mediation in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wahrhaftig has been a continuous member, board member and officer of the Council, and he has made numerous contributions at the local and national level to the field of mediation; and

WHEREAS, innovation and governmental efficiency is essential to financial success and sustainability;
WHEREAS, the City must act now before time does not allow for proper planning for a new and efficient fleet management system; and
WHEREAS, the City should begin with an immediate analysis and plan to greatly reduce its take-home vehicles and motor pool fleet.
