Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Lou Scheimer's unique and enduring contributions to the entertainment industry; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 12, 2011 to be “Lou Scheimer Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on November 12, 2011 the ToonSeum is honoring the Emmy-winning Pittsburgh native Lou Scheimer by dedicating their new gallery space as the Lou Scheimer Gallery, featuring his work as the co-founder of Filmation Studios; and
WHEREAS, after leaving Pittsburgh for Hollywood, Scheimer founded Filmation Studios in 1963, producing some of television's most iconic cartoons for over 25 years.
WHEREAS, Scheimer is known as one of the fathers of Saturday morning television creating the first animations of DC Comics cartoons like Superman, Batman, and Aquaman, and other animated shows including Fat Albert, He-Man, She-Ra, Tarzan, Isis, Shazam, the Lone Ranger, Zorro, and Ghostbusters; and
WHEREAS, Scheimer won an Emmy Award in 1975 for his work on the children's animated series, Star Trek; and
WHEREAS, Scheimer ensured that Filmation had a positive influence on the American entertainment industry, and devoted his career to producing art that told stories with strong moral messages.
WHEREAS, the ToonSeum, Pittsburgh's museum of comic and cartoon art, will host a dedication ceremony on Saturday, November 12 at 2:30pm with Scheimer as a special guest; and
