Whereas, Awesome Pittsburgh, founded in 2011 by Mike Capsambelis and Matt Gaston, is a chapter of the Awesome Foundation, a global network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of awesomeness in the universe founded in Boston in 2009; and,
Whereas, Awesome Pittsburgh will mine the brilliance of our city's many artists, inventors, designers, leaders, creators, champions, and dreamers in order to find projects that have both local impact and global resonance; and,
Whereas, Awesome Pittsburgh is comprised of a 10-person Board of Trustees who each month will hear the best ideas for making Pittsburgh stand out in the global economy, for connecting our communities, for celebrating art or technology, for making the city a better place to live, work, and play, or for simply surprising and delighting fellow Pittsburghers; and,
Whereas, every month, the Awesome Pittsburgh Trustees will each contribute $100 to create a $1,000 grant that will be awarded to the most awesome of these brilliant new ideas; and,
Whereas, Awesome Pittsburgh will officially begin accepting applications today, Tuesday, October 18th, and looks forward to awarding the first Awesome Pittsburgh grant in early December.

Now, therefore be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors the enterprising efforts of Mike Capsambelis and Matt Gaston and the other Awesome Trustees for recognizing Pittsburgh's awesomeness; and,
Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 18, 2011, Awesome Pittsburgh Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
