WHEREAS, on October 20th, 2011, Pittsburgh Community Television (PCTV) will celebrate its 25th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, PCTV will commemorate the occasion with a gala at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side, with all proceeds benefitting their broadcasting station; and
WHEREAS, PCTV, stationed out of the North Side, is a local non-profit organization that has produced non-commercial television programming in the Pittsburgh area since 1986; and
WHEREAS, PCTV reaches over 90,000 homes in the Pittsburgh area and has allowed Pittsburghers to produce over 20,000 hours of local original programming over the past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, PCTV's mission is to serve the community by encouraging conversation and media literacy, and by providing a platform for free speech where the local community can express their perspectives.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Pittsburgh Community Television's 25th anniversary, and their commitment to free speech and the continuing conversation between residents and community leaders; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 18th, 2011 "Pittsburgh Community Television Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
