WHEREAS, Deaconess Olivia Couch, beloved daughter of the late Vee and Lillie Carpenter, wife to the late James Couch and mother to Shirley Ann Harrison, and grandmother to Sherlyn Elizabeth Michie served as the matriarch of her family and as a great pillar of strength and love.
WHEREAS, Deaconess Olivia Couch gave her life to Christ and was baptized at The Piney Grove Baptist Church at a very early age. She later joined the Carrone Baptist Church, located in the Homewood area of the City of Pittsburgh. Under the direction of the late Reverend Phillips she was a member of the church for 63 years and humbly served as a Deaconess for over forty years; and
WHEREAS, at the blessed age of 97, Deaconess Olivia Couch peacefully passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great- great grand nieces, nephews, a host of other family members and church family that will miss her dearly.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and celebrate the life of Deaconess Olivia Couch for her fervent dedication to her family, her church, and her community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Friday, October 7, 2011, to be designated, "Deaconess Olivia Couch" day in the City of Pittsburgh.
