Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Just Harvest for their unyielding commitment to the empowerment of local citizens through education, and their contributions to the fight against the conditions which maintain and perpetuate poverty and hunger in our local communities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 4, 2011 “Just Harvest Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Tuesday, October 4, 2011 is Just Harvest's 23rd Annual Harvest Celebration Dinner at 7pm at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, Just Harvest will honor Joyce Rothermel with the Seeds of Justice Award for her 30 years of service to the community's anti-hunger movement as the former CEO and co-founder of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, a founding member of Just Harvest's Board of Directors, and a board president of the Hunger Action Coalition; and
 
WHEREAS, the Harvest Celebration Dinner will also feature a Silent Auction with all proceeds benefiting Just Harvest: A Center for Action Against Hunger, and the Harvest Education Fund; and
 
WHEREAS, since 1986, Just Harvest has been a tireless advocate for economic justice on the local, national, and international levels, working to influence public policy and to mobilize citizens in the campaign for the elimination of hunger and poverty.
