WHEREAS, Dave Carver is the current Pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church; he graduated from Concord High School in 1978, received a B.A. degree in English from Geneva College in 1982 and received a Master of Divinity degree in 1990 from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School located in Rochester NY; and,
WHEREAS, I Will Hold My Candle and Other Stories for Christmas is a new book written by Pastor Dave Carver capturing Christmas Eve stories that he has written over the past twenty years to help the people in his community engage the Greatest of Stories in new and fresh ways; and,
WHEREAS, to Pastor Carver the most beautiful sight in the world is the image of God's people singing "Silent Night, Holy Night" in the glow of their hand-held candles and God's people gathered around the ancient text, the welcoming community, and the ever-living story of the night that God became one of us; and,
WHEREAS, Pastor Carver is donating a portion of each sale to the SHINE campaign which is a campaign of the congregation of the First United Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights to update the church building in order to make it safe, efficient, and accessible; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby applaud Pastor Carver for the collection of stories that he hopes will make all of us think about life "in a whole new light"; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 20, 2011, to be "Pastor Carver Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
