Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh and the FedEx Ground countless volunteers for their selfless work for our city's low income elderly and disabled citizens; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 13, 2011, to be “Rebuilding Together and FedEx Ground” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since 1993,  Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization, has been dedicated to keeping low income elderly and disabled homeowners living in warmth, safety, independence, dignity, and decency through home repair and rehabilitation and in the year 2000, created "Operation Urgent Care" which is a year round emergency repair program; and,
WHEREAS, in September, 2010, in cooperation with the City of Pittsburgh, Councilwoman Smith, and the Elliott Community, FedEx Ground and Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh volunteered their efforts that resulted in homes in the Elliott neighborhood being repaired or renovated and a church in Sheraden renovated to house a community recreation program for the youth; and,
WHEREAS, the West Pittsburgh neighborhoods maintain a high rate of home ownership and offer a wonderful view of the skyline and all three rivers from the Elliott West End Overlook                         which is why Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh is concentrating their efforts block by block in the neighborhoods that comprise West Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh and FedEx Ground will continue their support of the West Pittsburgh areas by coming out on Thursday,  September 15th and Friday,  September 16th  , 2011, with 100 FedEx Ground volunteers helping with home repairs and a community clean-up effort that will focus primarily in the Crafton Heights area between Chartiers Avenue and Stueben Street; and,
