WHEREAS, on August 15th, Daniel Spittel, an active member of Boy Scout Troop 373, was named an Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, Eagle Scout is the highest attainable rank in the Boy Scouts and requires a true commitment to the community including a major service project which the scout plans, organizes, and manages; and
WHEREAS, Daniel has earned 38 merit badges, 17 more than are required to reach the rank of Eagle Scout, served as a leader in his troop, and as his service project, has worked to collect over 1,200 pairs of used eyeglasses for "New Eyes for the Needy," a New Jersey-based nonprofit which collects and refurbishes eyeglasses to be distributed for free to those in need; and
WHEREAS, Daniel has served as an instructor, den chief, patrol leader, and senior patrol leader and is currently the Fort Pitt Chapter Chief for The Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts' honor society; and
WHEREAS, Daniel is a junior at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School and plans to study business and education in college.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Daniel Spittel of Boy Scout Troop 373 for his years of service and congratulate him on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 30, 2011 "Daniel Spittel Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
