Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Irish Festival for fulfilling its mission to raise awareness in the region of Irish culture and for celebrating 20 years of bringing Pittsburghers together to celebrate their Irish heritage. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 9, 10 & 11, 2011, to be “PITTSBURGH IRISH FESTIVAL DAYS” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, Inc. is a non-profit corporation created to contribute to the rich cultural awareness of Irish history and tradition that exists in Pittsburgh, and;
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival has expanded into a year round resource for education and cultural programs through the creation of the Irish Education Outreach Program whose primary objective is to create a higher awareness of the ethnic richness and significance of the Irish and Irish-American culture and presence from both a historic and contemporary perspective; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, created in 1991, has gained recognition as an important presenter of Celtic culture due to the highly successful festival which this year will take place on September 9, 10 & 11 at the Riverplex between Sandcastle and the Waterfront; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival has become one of the nation's finest Irish-American festivals and the most comprehensive exhibit of Irish music, lore and dance in the region, attracting 25,000 people each year; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival will celebrate its 21st Anniversary with 3 days of events that will include dancing , music and literature with Irish music legends, Irish dance demonstrations and instructions, an Irish Dog Workshop and Area, a Pipes Workshop, a Genealogy Pavilion, Children's Activities and Arts and Crafts and a Gaelic Mass; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival will also feature weavers, historians, lace
makers, storytellers, Celtic symbol drawing, Gaelic Sports, Blarney Bingo, Kerry Bog Ponies and harp and mandolin demonstrations to fulfill their commitment to provide entertaining and educational interaction for families; and,
