Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Joshua Colbert for writing such an influential and valuable resource for men and women alike and for all of the community service work he performs in the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, August 1, 2011, to be “Joshua Colbert Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Joshua Colbert graduated from Immanuel Christian School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Internet Marketing and is a City of Pittsburgh Firefighter; he resides in the City of Pittsburgh with his wife and three children; and,

WHEREAS, while he was attending college he was often asked to help tie his peer's ties for formal events which prompted him to think about other life skills that men may not have had the privy of learning because of their upbringing; and,

WHEREAS, the best-selling book “Male by Birth, Man by Choice” was then penned by Joshua Colbert providing a guide that teaches men how to nurture the relationships of being a son, husband, father and friend and become a positive male in today's society; and,

WHEREAS, the book has been getting such rave reviews, that Penn State University has added it to their curriculum in the Fall of 2011, and non-profit organizations and high schools across the country are using the book as an educational tool; single mothers use the book as a guide for their sons, and even single women use it as a guide for recognizing good characteristics in a man; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to his book, he has many speaking engagements including “Ted Talks” and is organizing the “Success for America Tour” which includes motivational speakers for young adults; Joshua owns a marketing firm called Mozo Marketing and is releasing a new book in October titled “Small Business, Big Profit”; and,

WHEREAS, Joshua Colbert is also on the board of Neighborhood Learning Alliance (formerly Wireless Neighborhoods) and the National Opera House; he is currently a mentor for 3 mentees and volunteers his time at Peabody High School; and,
