Body
Whereas, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games have been supporting and honoring veterans with physical injuries and disabilities for more than 30 years; and,
Whereas, the goals of the Games are to improve the quality of life for Veterans with physical disabilities, to provide hands-on education and training for clinicians, to honor those who have served honorably in the Armed Forces, and to match newly-injured Veterans with older Veterans who can be mentors and have competed in previous Games; and,
Whereas, the Games have grown into the largest annually occurring wheelchair sports event in the world; and,
Whereas, more than 600 veterans from all over the United States, Great Britain, and Puerto Rico mentor, motivate, and challenge one another through competitive games each year; and,
Whereas, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games provides opportunities for continued rehabilitation of veterans with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, other neurological disorders, and amputations; and,
Whereas, all veterans, especially those who have sacrificed physically as well as mentally for their country, deserve compassion, respect, and recovery; and,
Whereas, the Games help the participants think of their abilities instead of their disabilities, and assures veterans that they can lead productive lives after rehabilitation.
