Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Professional and Amateur Pinball Association for bringing hundreds of enthusiastic pinballers to the Pittsburgh region every year; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 8 through August 14, 2011 “Professional and Amateur Pinball Association Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Professional and Amateur Pinball Association, PAPA, is dedicated to preserving the art, game, history, and science of pinball; and
 
WHEREAS, PAPA was started in 1991 by Steve Epstein, owner of the former Broadway Arcade in New York City and ran for several years, holding tournaments in New York City and Las Vegas; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2004 PAPA was resurrected in Scott Township and is now operated by Kevin Martin who organizes the World Pinball Championships with Steve Zumoff and Mister E. Dave; and
 
WHEREAS, PAPA operates two major international pinball tournaments, sponsors events worldwide, and writes the popular "Tilt Warning" blog; and
 
WHEREAS, the PAPA 14 World Pinball Championships will be held August 11 to 14, 2011 at PAPA headquarters in Scott Township and will bring together hundreds of players from all over the world to compete for a grand prize of nearly $40,000.
