BODY
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Glass Center celebrates their 10th anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, they are celebrating by hosting "Hot and Sticky", an evening of art and entertainment featuring food prepared by New York City arts collective Burt Asphalt Family, taking place on Saturday, July 23 from 8 to 11pm; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Glass Center was founded by glass artists Ron Desmett and Kathleen Mulcahy in 2001 and has grown into an internationally-recognized center for artistry and instruction; and
WHEREAS, the Center offers classes for all skill levels, state-of-the-art studio space for use by established artists and beginners alike, galleries, public demonstrations and tours, and events year-round; and
WHEREAS, the Center is dedicated to fostering and expanding the glass art community in the City and offers residencies, scholarships, apprenticeships, and work study opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the Center, located at the intersection of the neighborhoods of Garfield, Friendship, and East Liberty, is one of the cornerstones of the Penn Ave Arts Initiative and efforts to jumpstart economic development through the arts; and
TITLE
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pittsburgh Glass Center; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 23, 2011 "Pittsburgh Glass Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
