WHEREAS, Darryl Cann arrived in Pittsburgh, Pa, in 1977 to attend the University of Pittsburgh. In 1980, Darryl became the first African American Manager for Liberty Men's Formals, which was the leading tri-state formalwear specialist located in the East End in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, two inspiring owners of the world renowned Pyramid Restaurant and Lounge noticed Darryl's talent and great customer service skills and hired him immediately to manage Pittsburgh's number one Jazz Club; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, Darryl decided to contribute his skills and experience to the world famous Omni William Penn Hotel as a bellman. He was instantly fascinated by the rich history of the hotel and servicing local Pittsburghers and many people from around the world; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, Darryl received Omni William Penn' s SENSATIONAL ASSOCIATE OF THE YEAR AWARD. Most recently, Darryl has received the Greater Pittsburgh Hotel Association's Guest Services Employee of the Year award and became a finalist for the 2011 Pennsylvania Lodging and Tourism Association's Guest Relations Award, in recognition for outstanding performance, commitment and achievements in the hospitality and tourism industry.
TITLE
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Darryl Cann efforts in service for all; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby proclaim July 19, 2011, as "Darryl Cann" day in the City of Pittsburgh.
