WHEREAS, Venture Outdoors is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a Members Day party on Sunday, July 17th from 12:00 to 4:00pm at Kayak Pittsburgh Downtown; and
WHEREAS, the celebration is free for Venture Outdoors members and includes kayaking, fishing, biking, food, crafts, and bluegrass music by the Mon River Ramblers; and
WHEREAS, Venture Outdoors was founded in the summer of 2001 in order to make it fun and easy for Pittsburghers to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty of our City and region through over 500 public programs every year including kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, and cross country skiing; and
WHEREAS, Venture Outdoors has provided outdoor activities for hundreds of thousands of people since their founding and continues to develop innovative, fun new outdoor programming every year; and
WHEREAS, Venture Outdoors also owns and operates Kayak Pittsburgh, which rents out kayaks for residents and visitors to cruise the three rives and Climb Pittsburgh, a portable climbing wall service; and
WHEREAS, almost 10,000 people have signed on as members of the organization and their circle of members, supporters, participants, and friends grows every day; and
WHEREAS, Venture Outdoors set a Guinness World Record last year by assembling 1,619 boats for World Environment Day.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the 10th anniversary of Venture Outdoors and the invaluable role they have played in making Pittsburgh such a great place to live; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 17, 2011 "Venture Outdoors Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
