Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks this year's LEAP graduates for their stewardship of green spaces and parks; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Pittsburgh City Council declares June 28, 2011 LEAP Graduate Appreciation Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Student Conservation Association's Leadership in the Environment Advancement Program (LEAP) provides opportunities for hands on service to the land, career readiness, exposure to green jobs and careers, community leadership, and environmental education; and
 
WHEREAS, 14 schools were represented by the 2010-2011 LEAP--  Brashear High School, Carrick High School, Career Connections Charter High School, Clayton Academy, David B. Oliver High School, Imani Christian Academy, McKeesport High School, Obama High School, Perry Traditional Academy, Propel Andrew St. High School, Science/Tech High School, Student Achievement Center, Taylor Alderdice High School and Westinghouse High School; and
 
WHEREAS, in April, LEAP participants worked with our District 4 and District 3 Council offices, Allegheny Cleanways and residents to clean up illegal dumpsites in Carrick; and   
 
WHEREAS, LEAP participants also completed a restoration of Grandview Park that included invasive vine removal, trail brushing, resolving trail drainages issues, and removing hazardous stairs; and  
 
WHEREAS, in Emerald View Park, LEAP participants cleared invasive plants, knit trail markers, cleaned trails, and erected 200 feet of deer fencing to protect plants and aid a larger restoration project on the ridge; and
 
WHEREAS, twenty-five students graduated from the LEAP program this past May;
