Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, commend Susan Hough and all of the Dreams of Hope volunteers who work with LGBTA youth to build understanding through the creative arts. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, declare Thursday, June 16, 2011 to be Dreams of Hope “Bully Me” Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

BODY
WHEREAS, Dreams of Hope is Pittsburgh's only arts focused LGBTA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allied) youth organization; and
WHEREAS, Susan Haugh, current Artistic/Executive Director, founded the organization in 2003, with a start up grant from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and with assistance from three collaborating artists; and
WHEREAS, recognizing a need for creative outlets for youth and for positive role models in the LGBTA community, Haugh founded the group with this mission: Through the arts, Dreams of Hope Develops LGBTA youth leaders who create change by educating audiences; and
WHEREAS, Dreams of Hope began as a creative and performing arts organization for youth, ages 13 - 21, performing 18-22 times each season to an estimated 3,00-5,000 people and there is no cost to the youth to participate in this program and they receive a stipend for their performances; and
WHEREAS, two years ago, in an effort to reach more youth directly, DOH expanded to include a web based poetry workshop, Web Poets which provides an online outlet and professional facilitation for youth and young adults under the age of 24 and QAMP! a summer arts camp for youth ages 13-17; and
WHEREAS, Dreams of Hope will present Bully Me, a free program open to the public, on Thursday 16, 2011, from 7:30 - 9:00 pm at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Avenue, in the East Liberty community of Pittsburgh.
