Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes Cheryle E. Campbell for all of her accomplishments, for being a trailblazer, and for her unrelenting commitment to giving back to our communities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Wednesday, June 1, 2011, to be designated, "Cheryle E. Campbell" day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1972 Cheryl Campbell began her 38 year career with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as an urban planner. Throughout that entire time, she has continued to demonstrate her management and administrative leadership skills and her dedication to public service. In 2002 Ms. Campbell was appointed Deputy Field Office Director and three years later assumed her current position as Director of the Pittsburgh Field Office; and
WHEREAS, since the mid-1970's Ms. Campbell has served in a succession of leadership positions throughout HUD's major divisions, including, Community Planning and Development Representative (1975-79) and Program Manager (1975-85), Chief of Multifamily Housing (1985-87), Director of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (1987-98), and Community Builder (1998-02); and
WHEREAS, Ms. Campbell has advanced opportunities for women and persons with disabilities in the federal workforce. She has worked extensively and collaboratively with other federal, state and local agencies to advance job creation and equal opportunity in housing and community development; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Campbell led the team effort to desegregate public housing and re-create neighborhoods while improving the quality of life for hundreds of persons through the implementation of the Sanders Consent Decree; and
WHEREAS, Cheryle Campbell is a three-time recipient of the Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board's Excellence in Government Award and was named Woman of the Year for 1997 by the Federal Women's Program Board of Visitors.
