Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does, hereby, declare June 13, 2011 to be Anthony “The Boss” Pasquarelli Day, in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Anthony Pasquarelli was born June 13, 1915, in Pittsburgh and was affectionately called "The Boss" by his many trumpet students; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Pasquarelli was the most sought after trumpeter in Pittsburgh and during his long and successful career he played first trumpet in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Grand Opera, Ice Capades and Ice Follies; was a staff musician with radio and television stations in Pittsburgh and with theatre orchestras including the Nixon, Penn and Stanley Theatres; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Pasquarelli studied trumpet with Ottavio Ferrara and Charles Vecchiolo and played under such conductors as William Steinberg, Andre Kostalanetz, Karl Kritz and Richard Karp; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Carnegie Mellon University, where he taught for 47 years,  named Anthony Pasquarelli as the School of Music's first Artist-Lecturer Emeritus in trumpet; and
WHEREAS, in addition to teaching at CMU, The Boss, taught in his downtown studio until the age of 93, and, as a teacher, he touched the lives of many students who still come together for annual luncheons where they share Boss stories which are filled with gratitude and humor, as Mr. Pasquarelli taught with a firm hand and great sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, this great trumpet player, motivator, father figure and friend to many, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the age of 95.
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, commends this man of honor, loyalty and devotion and thanks him for his influence in molding some of Pittsburgh's finest trumpeters, who carry on his legacy.
