Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pride for diligent work in increasing the awareness of the LGBT community and promoting the diversity of the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 3 through 12, 2011, to be "Pittsburgh Pride Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh is to increase awareness and understanding of, and improve the quality of life for, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the Delta Foundation leads the celebration of Pittsburgh Pride Week, June 3 through 12, 2011; and
 
WHEREAS,  the purpose of celebrating Pittsburgh Pride is to recognize the events of the New York City Stonewall Inn uprising of June 1969, which is generally regarded as the beginning of the movement for basic human rights; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride started as a one-day event consisting of a parade and festival and has grown to a ten-day celebration consisting of events that promote the diversity of the Pittsburgh region; and
 
WHEREAS,  major corporations including, but not limited to, Highmark, PNC Bank, UPMC, ALCOA, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, Clear Channel, Columbia Gas, Coors Light, Direct Energy, Ernst & Young, Giant Eagle, Google, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, PPG, Tribune Review, and Whirl Magazine, have come together and provided the resources necessary to produce events for the entire Pittsburgh region to enjoy; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride consists of seven major events including the Advocacy Rally, Lez Date, TransPride, Pub Crawl, the Pride Awareness March, PrideFest, and Pride in the Street featuring the legendary R&B diva Patti LaBelle;
