Title: Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Saturday, May 7, 2011, to be designated, “Schenley High School Musical” day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1972, Schenley High School students began performing a spring musical with “Five on the Blackhand Side” and crafted a strong tradition of the highest quality shows for a remarkable forty consecutive years. Schenley High School's award winning musicals came to become a Pittsburgh tradition; and
WHEREAS, Roger Babusci, beloved teacher and activities director of Schenley High School, initiated the Schenley Musical Program. Under the direction of Roger, affectionately known as “Mr. B.”, this annual musical production drew an audience of fans from all over the Pittsburgh region; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Ms. Kelly McKrell, a Schenley graduate herself, took up the director's chair. She skillfully and enthusiastically carried on the tradition with the production of “Leader of the Pack.” Throughout the years, the special quality known as *magic* to over a thousand musical alumni pointed to the unique dedication of Mr. Babusci and Ms. McKrell to always put the students first.
WHEREAS, since their founding in 1992, the Civic Light Opera's Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in Musical Theater has honored Schenley's incomparability of talent among Allegheny County schools with an exceptional 98 nominations and an incredible number of wins; and
WHEREAS, although the last senior class of Schenley High School will graduate in June 2011, the quality and success of their musical productions has continued to stand the test of time. As the curtain closes on Saturday's final performance of “Seussical the Musical” Schenley students should be proud to celebrate, cherish, and reflect on 40 phenomenal years of musical talent.
Now, Therefore, be it resolved that in the spirit of Roger Babusci, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Schenley High School Musical Program for exceeding all expectations and for displaying the incredible talent within our Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
