Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 3, 2011, Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture was founded in 1960 and provides quality educational opportunities for over 800 members including commercial, consulting, municipal, and utility arborists, researchers and educators, horticulturists, and individuals interested in the care of trees and landscapes; and
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture provided pro bono community service to Allegheny Cemetery and the Lawrenceville Neighborhood at Arbor Day of Service on March 18, 2011, in an amount exceeding $40,000 of donated tree care by 65 local and visiting arborists; and
WHEREAS, the Western Tree Climbing Championship, sponsored by the Pennsylvania-Delaware chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture, will be hosted by Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville on May 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, the Western Tree Climbing Championship brings together the area's most experienced climbers for the benefit of friendly competition and the exchange of ideas and techniques; and
WHEREAS, the competition will enable participants the opportunity to experience state-of-the-art-climbing techniques, equipment innovations, and safety regulations under simulated working conditions; and
WHEREAS, without the benefit of spikes which can cause damage to a tree, competitors will show off their arborist skills in five different events including the Work Climb, Belayed Speed Climb, Secured Foot Lock, the Throw Line Event and Aerial Rescue; and
WHEREAS, the top five winners will advance to a statewide competition and have the chance to compete against professional tree climbers from other countries for the title of World Champion Tree Climber in July.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes the participants of the Western Tree Climbing Championship for their adept skills; and
