Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Michael Dunleavy on being named Labor's 2011 Man of the Year by the Allegheny County Labor Council, and does hereby declare May 6, 2011, to be “Michael R. Dunleavy Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Michael Dunleavy began his affiliation with I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5 as a West Virginia University student in 1975, working summers as a helper, and he was officially sworn in to the I.B.E.W. as a journeyman-wireman and foreman in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dunleavy expanded his industry experience when he became the General Superintendent of Sargent Electric Company in 1987, the largest signatory electrical contractor affiliated with Local Union No. 5 at the time, continued there to become the Manager of Sargent's Service Maintenance Division; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dunleavy has held the I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 5 Executive Board positions of President, Recording Secretary, Assistant Business Manager, and currently holds the combined offices of Business Manager and Financial Secretary; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dunleavy serves as a member of many boards and civic groups, such as Vice President of the Pennsylvania Building Trades Council, Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, the United Way of Allegheny County Board of Directors, the Port of Pittsburgh Commission, the Sports & Exhibition Authority Board; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dunleavy is most of all the loving husband of Diane and father of Michael, Jr., Matthew and Sarah; and
WHEREAS, the care for animals reflects one's empathy and compassion for all living things, which Michael Dunleavy demonstrates through the enjoyment and affection for his pets, Zoe the dog and Melody the cat; and
WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the great leadership Michael Dunleavy exemplifies towards improving the quality of life for all working people in Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, on May 6, 2011, at the Allegheny County Labor Council Banquet, Michael Dunleavy is being honored as Labor's 2011 Man of the Year, for his continued service;
