Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 3, 2011, National Teacher Appreciation Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, May 2nd through 6th is National Teacher Appreciation Week; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Public Schools boast approximately 2040 professional teachers; and
WHEREAS, we are grateful for the professionalism, determination, and commitment of our teachers in the Pittsburgh Public Schools who skillfully sculpt our children in positive, productive and creative ways; and
WHEREAS, approximately 700 Pittsburgh Public School teachers welcomed the chance to get involved in the design and implementation of new District programs and initiatives around Empowering Effective Teachers; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the leadership and commitment shown by many of our teachers towards the Empowering Effective Teachers work through the RISE (Research-based Inclusive System of Evaluation) design teams, Promise-Readiness Corps, Teaching and Learning Environment Liaisons and the Student Learning Subcommittee, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, National Teacher Appreciation Week is the perfect time of the year to take a moment to show your appreciation to teachers for all the effort they put in each day to teach and encourage our City's children.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes the teachers of Pittsburgh Public Schools  for helping our children to prepare for life and succeed; and
