Title
Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into a Cooperation and License Agreement with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to provide stewardship, improvements, and maintenance assistance for Market Square (Park Area).
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works of the City, through their respective Directors and subject to the supervision of the Mayor, are responsible for the care, management and control of all lands, buildings and recreational activity in City parks pursuant to Article Xl, Sections 471.01 et seq., of the Pittsburgh Code of Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, Market Square (hereinafter referred to as the "Park"), located at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Market Street in downtown Pittsburgh, is a major asset of the City requiring a high level of maintenance and management commensurate with its value and importance to the Golden Triangle; and
WHEREAS, the PDP has offered to provide stewardship, improvements, and maintenance assistance to the City as set forth below in order to create recreational opportunities and improve public enjoyment of the Park; and
WHEREAS, the PDP and the City now wish to document their understanding of each party's role in this cooperation.
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works and the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation are hereby authorized to enter into a Cooperation and License Agreement with the PDP, pursuant to which the PDP will provide stewardship, improvements, and maintenance assistance to Market Square (Park Area) and will further assist in the operation and management thereof.
