Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Anna Rush for the volunteer work she has done for many years for our service men and women who keep us safe, and for the work she has done to keep her church and Catholic organizations alive and does hereby declare Tuesday, April 19, 2011, to be “Anna Rush Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Anna Rush, now 93, grew up in Sharpsburg, married her husband, John, and moved to Fleming Avenue in Brighton Heights where she raised her five children, Anna, John, Robert, Richard and Ray and watched her family grow to include 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rush worked at Joseph Hornes Company, Downtown, as a seamstress and after the death of her husband she moved to the Sheptytsky Arms Apartments in Brighton Heights; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rush has a passion for helping others and creates an enthusiasm in the apartment building making sure that everyone participates in some way in the constant collection of money, reusable goods and non-perishable food to send to our troops serving in Afghanistan; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rush organizes the tooth brushes, tooth paste, bars of soap, energy bars, nutrition bars, cards, CD's and all else collected from the building residents for the troops and makes sure it gets to her church, Risen Lord Church, for final sorting and shipping; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rush was a regular volunteer at Risen Lord Church, Catholic Daughters and the Ladies of Charity where she spent many years working on just about every project; and
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rush also plays a big part in the apartment building's Residence Council as treasurer where she keeps track of all of the money coming in and out for the organization; and
 
WHEREAS, the Residence Council holds bingos and raffles and sells soft drinks so that the money can then be turned around for Christmas and Steeler parties and birthday celebrations, and cookouts, all kept track of by Mrs. Rush; and
 
WHEREAS, last year, Mrs. Rush started to slow down a bit giving over the Lenten fish fries to the younger ladies in her congregation and giving up Silver Sneakers Line Dancing;
