WHEREAS, McDonald's USA, LLC, is the leading foodservice provider in the United States serving a variety of wholesome foods made from quality ingredients to more than 26 million customers every day ; and,
WHEREAS, 90% of McDonald's 14,000 U.S restaurants are independently owned and operated by local businessmen and women, representing a major economic presence in American communities ; and,
WHEREAS, on April 19th, 2011, McDonald's and their franchisees will embark on an aggressive nationwide hiring initiative to add 50,000 new employees at restaurants across the country which will generate more than $1.4 billion in consumer spending and assuring state and local economies significant increases in housing, taxes and grocery purchases ; and,
WHEREAS , local McDonald's restaurants are looking to hire up to 1,500 new crew and restaurant management positions across the Pittsburgh region which are a combination of both seasonal and sustaining full time and part time positions; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City if Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend McDonald's for its commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce and for its expansive employment initiative which will benefit customers, their employees and our communities; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 19, 2011, to be "MCDONALD'S PITTSBURGH HIRING DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
