Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Varsity Hockey Team of Bishop Canevin High School which consists of Seniors Zack Daley “G”, Nicholas Hart “A”, Kendall King, Michael Mansmann “A”, Ricky McNulty and Frank Vance “C”; Juniors Corey DeSimone, Shawn Hood, Peter Karney, Marc Slomiany, and Matthew Walsh ; Sophomores Matthew Bilski, Austin Large, Patrick Large, Chadd Lounder, and Chris Reda; and Freshman Brennen Adams, Garrett Godlewski, Nikita Meskin “G”, Gus Peponidis, and Randy Unger, for all their hard work and perseverance, as they did what no other team in PIHL Class “AA” could do, made history by winning the State Championship; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 5, 2011, to be “Canevin Hockey Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on March 26, 2011, the Varsity Hockey Team of Bishop Canevin High School, located in the East Carnegie section of the City of Pittsburgh, defeated Council Rock South 4-1 to win their first PA CUP AA State title since 1989; and,

WHEREAS, the edge of your seat contest saw Canevin take a 2-1 lead into the third period with the opening goal scored by Senior Nick Hart and the goaltender who shined was Senior Zack Daley along with a stout defense and the game winning goal scored by Junior Matt Walsh; and,

WHEREAS, Canevin's record was 16-4 during the regular season, qualifying them as the #3 seed in the playoffs and they went on to win a physical quarter final game 8-3 with Nick Hart scoring the game winning goal, Matt Walsh scored a hat trick and Seniors Kendall King and Frank Vance had two assists each; and,

WHEREAS, In the Penguin Cup Semi-Finals at Consol Energy Center on March 15th, the Crusaders dethroned 3-time defending champion Latrobe area in a thrilling 2-1 overtime win with Freshman Randy Unger scoring the game winner in the first overtime period; and,

WHEREAS, on March 20th, the Canevin Crusaders defeated top seed Peters Township for their first Penguins Cup Championship since 1993 and their best performance netting 5 goals from five different players for a 5-2 win; and,
