Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the contributions and achievements of its graduate and professional students; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 4 through April 8, 2011 “Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week is designed to raise awareness of the role of graduate and professional students within this nation's colleges and universities; and
 
WHEREAS, there are more than 15,000 graduate and professional students currently studying in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh's graduate and professional students have dedicated volunteer hours to hundreds of worthy causes, enriched the City's arts scene both as creators and spectators, and contributed to the economy, strengthening local businesses; and
 
WHEREAS, graduate and professional students are the future teaching professionals, researchers, and leaders of the political, business, cultural, and educational institutions that are so important to this City, the nation, and the world; and
 
WHEREAS, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week gives universities throughout the City and the country the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these students with seminars and other events.
