Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, commend the Soldiers and Sailors Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor for remembering and honoring all Western Pennsylvania veterans who have served our country with dignity and valor.

WHEREAS, Soldiers and Sailors inducted 19 Pennsylvania veterans into the Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor on Sunday, March 27, 2011, of those19 veterans inducted, 4 were from the City of Pittsburgh, Floyd J. Byers, Lawrence G. Gerken, James T. Hansberry and Vincent H. Hoover; and
WHEREAS, the Hall of Valor Program, created in 1963, is designed to honor local heroes who, during extraordinary times, showed courage and devotion to their comrades and our country by performing acts of valor in the face of the enemy; and
WHEREAS, in order to be considered entry into the Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor, a veteran must have received one or more of the following medals for acts of valor during period of military conflict: The Medal of Honor, The Distinguished Service Cross, The Navy Cross, The Air Force Cross, The Silver Star Medal, The Distinguished Flying Cross or The Soldiers Medal; and
WHEREAS, the Soldiers and Sailors Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor has proudly honored over 600 veterans of the Western Pennsylvania area.
