WHEREAS, Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness abut child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families; and,
WHEREAS, the Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign in Pittsburgh is a joint effort of Family Resources, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, A Child's Place at Mercy/ Pittsburgh Mercy, the Center for Minority Health, Children's Hospital and UPMC Health Plan; and,
WHEREAS, the message to the public is multi-faceted: Choose your partner carefully. Your child's life depends on it. Never leave your child with someone you don't trust to keep your child safe. Your baby is counting on you to make the right decision; and,
WHEREAS, prevention is the best hope of reducing child abuse and neglect but strengthening families and preventing child abuse requires a shared commitment of individuals and organizations in the community ; and,
WHEREAS, Family Resources, AC Dept. of Human Services, A Child's Place at Mercy/ Pittsburgh Mercy , the Center for Minority Health, Children's Hospital and UPMC Health Plan have made the commitment to promote prevention and treat abuse by partnering to provide a spectrum of services to individuals and for the community.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend all the partners in the Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign for their active and successful efforts to protect children; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of April 2011 to be "CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH" in the City of Pittsburgh.
