WHEREAS, with the vision of Mary Peck Bond, for more than 125 years, Lemington Community Services, Inc. (LCSI) has provided programming and services to the African American elder population of the City of Pittsburgh's East End communities. LCSI adamantly maintains the reputation as Pittsburgh's first senior-friendly urban community organization; and
WHEREAS, LCSI proudly supports independent living, decreased isolation and premature institutionalization. They also promote mental, physical and financial health, and provide referrals to other essential resources throughout the region of Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, they specifically serve the frail, vulnerable and disabled elderly living in the Lincoln-Lemington, Belmar, and Larimer neighborhoods to ensure that residents may live independently as long as possible in their own homes, age with dignity in a safe environment, and continue to be vibrant members of the community; and
WHEREAS, Today, LCSI continues to respond to the needs of the community, serving as a vital community resource for personalized elder care that enhances the quality of life.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the achievements of LCSI, as well as, for being a recipient of the HOPE Fund Grant; and
Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday, March 29th, 2011, to be designated "Lemington Community Services, Inc." day in the City of Pittsburgh.
