WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank in Scouting of which only 4 percent of youth earn and is based on performances in the areas of responsibility, leadership, service and outdoor skills; and,
WHEREAS, Adam James McGeehan achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on December 20, 2010 after receiving 24 merit badges; and,
WHEREAS, for his final project to obtain Eagle Scout, Adam directed the improvement and construction of several large, floor-to-ceiling shelves for Emanuel United Methodist Church Preschool, which provided much needed storage space to organize school supplies; and,
WHEREAS, Adam procured the finances and materials for his project; organized a team of fellow scouts, leaders and their parents and managed the project through its completion totaling more than 130 hours; and,
WHEREAS, Adam began his involvement in scouting in 1999 as a Tiger Cub and has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America in Scout Troop 66 as a Cub Scout for 12 years where he earned the Arrow of Light Award; and,
WHEREAS, Adam volunteers much of his time in the community in areas such as the Kiwanis Club, Jubilee Kitchen and the Student Conservation Association; he is currently attending CAPA High School studying literary arts where he actively participates in Amnesty International, Peer Helpers and is a member of the National Honor Society; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Adam McGeehan for his outstanding achievement of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, March 21, 2011, to be "Adam McGeehan Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
