WHEREAS, the Sickle Cell Society offers adult Sickle Cell Disease patients and families an educational resource and comprehensive treatment center that ensures complete access to medical, psychosocial and educational services with a holistic approach; and

WHEREAS, the Sickle Cell Society has separated themselves from the rest as an institution where diversity is paramount for the survival of the Society; and

WHEREAS, They have undertaken a number laboratory contract ventures, implemented an HIV/AIDS program for people of color, and acquired a renewable planning grant from the Department of Health and Human Services; and

WHEREAS, in 2008 the HOPE Fund Grant was created to serve as a funding resource for non-profit organizations that provide services to residents of the 9^th Council District. In 2010, with all of their hard work and commitment to those suffering in our communities, the Sickle Cell Society was awarded a HOPE Fund Grant.
