WHEREAS, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit #3 collected 86,093 cans of soup to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank during their creative "Souper Bowl" challenge; and,
WHEREAS, during the weeks prior to the 2011 Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, AIU3 held its own rivalry between the Allegheny Intermediate Unit 3 in Pittsburgh and their counterpart Cooperative Educational Service Agency #7 in Green Bay Wisconsin by initiating a contest to see which could collect the most canned soup for a local food bank; and,
WHEREAS, they named it the "Souper Bowl" challenge where the organization that collected the fewest cans of soup had to sing the other team's fight song for all to witness via videoconference; and,
WHEREAS, along with their own employees, the AIU3 received help from area businesses, schools and other organizations who have helped AIU3 bring in 77,375 more cans than their colleagues CESA #7 in Wisconsin; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate and commend AIU3, its employees and contributors for their creative effort in collecting 86,093 cans for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 22, 2011, to be a "Souper Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
