Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Saint Brigid Court Foundation and Commander Catherine Vallone McNeilly for continuing the spirit of the "Fighting Irish" by showing exemplary courage in the face of adversity. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 15, 2011, to be “Commander McNeilly Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Saint Brigid Court Foundation was conceptualized by an Irish Immigrant - Maggie Cloonan in an effort to honor a woman, who dealing with illness, has exemplified courage in the face of adversity; and,
 
WHEREAS, The St. Brigid's Court award recognizes young women from the Pittsburgh area who have faced great adversity in their lives with the "fighting Irish" spirit; and,
 
WHEREAS, the awardee shares the values of  Saint Brigid, Patron Saint of Learning, Courage, and Spiritual Strength; and,    
 
WHEREAS, the awardee has dealt with a chronic illness and other limiting challenges with Faith, Hope, and Courage; and,                                          
 
WHEREAS, this year the St. Brigid Court committee was honored to bestow the 2011 award to Pittsburgh Police Commander Catherine Vallone McNeilly whose lifelong dream of law enforcement could have come to a halt because of Multiple Sclerosis; however medical intervention coupled with her strong Catholic faith proved she possessed the determination of what we call the Spirit of the Fighting Irish; and,
