Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate The First Tee of Pittsburgh for ten years of programmatic success and for promoting positive values for youth through their Junior Golf Weekend; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 29 - May 1, 2011 to be “THE FIRST TEE OF PITTSBURGH JUNIOR GOLF WEEKEND” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh is a nonprofit youth development organization that is one of a 200 chapter initiative of the World Golf Foundation that works to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life enhancing values through the game of golf; and,
WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh works with numerous schools, social service organizations, youth serving groups, faith groups, neighbors, families, community groups and more to schedule clinics for children ages 5 - 18. These clinics use golf instruction as a vehicle to teach life skills, such as confidence, respect, judgment, responsibility, sportsmanship, courtesy, honesty, integrity, and perseverance. Through written lesson plans, First Tee participants learn about interpersonal communication, self management skills, goal setting and resilience skills; and,
WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh will be celebrating ten years of positive youth development programs that impact over 2,000 area youth each year by hosting a Junior Golf Weekend in Western Pennsylvania with Honorary Co-Chairs Arnold Palmer and Carole Semple Thomson from April 29 - May 1, 2011. The goal of the weekend is to promote The First Tee's code of conduct among all junior golfers - “Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect Your Surroundings” ; and,
WHEREAS, The First Tee of Pittsburgh is proud to offer free clinics during the weekend for young girls by Carol Semple Thompson and for all children by the tri-state Professional Golf Association at the Bob O'Connor Golf Course ; and,
WHEREAS, as part of the Junior Golf Weekend, The First Tee of Pittsburgh will be selecting young participants and coaches to visit thirty-six area golf courses to serve as ambassadors and share information about golf and positive youth development.
