Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council does hereby honor Melissa Murphy for her outstanding professional and personal achievements and her commitment to the community BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Melissa Murphy Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Melissa Murphy is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for StarKist Co., and is responsible for directing the company's Human Resources, Communications, Government Relations and Consumer Affairs efforts and serves as the Corporate Secretary for the Board of Directors of the company; and
WHEREAS, Melissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing, with minors in Business, Communication and English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh and is a well-respected force in the national Public Relations arena, recognized for her professional excellence, contributions to the community and mentorship of other women; and
WHEREAS, Melissa's rise in the PR realm has progressed rapidly. Melissa previously served as a Vice President and Group Leader of Ketchum Public Relations, rising quickly through the ranks and promoted to Vice President before the age of 30. In June of 2008, Melissa was tapped to help lead StarKist from a domestic tuna manufacturer to a global seafood brand after serving as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Del Monte Foods for over five years; and
WHEREAS, Melissa has received many honors over the years, including being named a finalist in the prestigious 2010 Greater Pittsburgh Athena Awards sponsored by the Allegheny Conference on Community Development; the Public Relations Society of America's Silver Anvil Award and Bronze Anvil Award (the Oscars of the public relations profession); Ketchum's Road Scholar Award; and Ketchum's Passion and Precision award; and
WHEREAS, While at Del Monte, Melissa established and organized all of the company's corporate contribution programs, donating millions of dollars of funding and food to a number of local charities in Pittsburgh and beyond.
