Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Deacon Clipton Allen's service as a Member, Trustee and Deacon of Lily Baptist Church; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 8, 2011 to be “Deacon Clipton Allen Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Deacon Clipton Allen was born in Uniontown, Alabama in 1925 and settled in Pittsburgh in 1945, where he worked as a US Postal Service security inspector until his retirement in 1987; and,
 
WHEREAS, a husband, father and grandfather, Deacon Allen has built a loving extended family with many nieces, nephews and cousins who affectionately refer to him as "Kidd"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Deacon Allen has proven over the years to be an exemplar and personification of what defines a Deacon, serving in this capacity for over 30 years, becoming an officially ordained Deacon in 1978, and serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board before stepping down in 2000; and,
 
WHEREAS, along with his role of Deacon at Lily Baptist, Deacon Allen is also a trustee of the Church, conducting its business operations in his characteristically quiet steadfast manner, but also offering hands on help in any way that he can, whether it be to preserve the congregation, help build a new office and a new bathroom, or climbing a ladder to patch a leaky roof;
