Title: Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday, March 8, 2011, to be designated, “Douglas Pittrell Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Douglas Pittrell was born June 19, 1940 to the Late Ruth G. Pittrell, and the Late Alphonso Pittrell Sr., in Danville, Virginia. Subsequently, his family moved to Pittsburgh and he became a proud graduate of the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Pittrell went on to be employed with Darling Demolition Co. and with J&L Steel Mill in the Hazelwood area in the City of Pittsburgh As an advocate for charitable organizations, Mr. Pittrell worked very closely with the Salvation Army; and
 
WHEREAS, Douglas always had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his family very much. He also loved his community. Douglas would play with all of the children in the neighborhood and teach them how to clean/scale the fresh fish that he'd caught that day; and
WHEREAS, During this past Black History Month, Douglas' picture was mounted on the first floor of the City-County Building in honor of his legacy. He leaves behind a host of family and friends that are proud to have known him and continue his legacy.
 
Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the late Douglas Pittrell for his commitment to our children, and his relentless dedication to our communities; and
