WHEREAS, Brya Adams is a senior at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, who has been surrounded by music since birth; her father is a proficient trumpet player and she is the relative of nationally known musician Roger Humphries of Pittsburgh, PA. Brya has a focus on the violin, which she has been playing since she was only 3 years old. She will continue to elevate her musical ambitions as she travels to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Clark Atlanta University in the Fall of 2011, upon graduation from Pittsburgh CAPA; and,
WHEREAS, Bria Thomas is a senior at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, where she majors in instrumental music and studies the cello. Besides her distinctive musical talents, she also produces hip hop music for local artists as well as being a DJ of choice for many local school and community events. Bria is a proud resident of Pittsburgh's North Side; and will attend California University of Pennsylvania in the Fall of 2011, to major in their new commercial music program, she hopes to have her music become nationally known; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Creative Arts and Performing Arts School is a premiere magnet school located in the Cultural Trust of Downtown Pittsburgh, that offers its students' six majors of study: visual arts, literary arts, theater, instrumental music, vocal music, and dance; and,
WHEREAS, Two senior students, Brya Adams and Bria Thomas, have realized the full potential of implementing these various areas of artistic and cultural study. Brya Adams and Bria Thomas will prove their own creativity through producing Hip-Hop: The Untold Story on Friday, February 18th as their senior project, with hopes of highlighting the many talent's of their fellow classmates and to fight stereotypes by showcasing the positivity of Hip Hop music and dance; and,
WHEREAS, Brya Adams and Bria Thomas have decided to donate proceeds from their senior project, Hip-Hop: The Untold Story, to the Negro Emergency Education Drive (NEED) Scholarship Fund and Manchester Academic Charter School's Summer Basketball Program. They decided to donate in this manner because of their own personal passion to help guide their fellow students to positive activities, and keep their fellow peers away from the streets and violence through engagement in activities that foster advancement in their health and education.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Brya Adams and Bria Thomas for their leadership in producing Hip-Hop: The Untold Story, and may they continue to follow their dreams and passion to better the lives of our youth;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 18, 2011 to be "Brya Adams and Bria Thomas Day" in the City of Pittsburgh. In the spirit of African American History Month, we are honored to congratulate young leaders who exemplify creativity through progressive thinking.
